GC Championship – 2026

The GC Championship is our club’s annual internal GC Level Play competition.

The competition runs throughout the season and culminates in a finals day on Sunday 6 September.

It is open to all Premium members.

The tournament format will be Knockout with two lives (Draw and Process), meaning you will have two opportunities to reach the final stages. Each match will consist of one game, best of 13 points and is level play.

Deadlines will be imposed as necessary.

Draw

The draw has been generated from a seeded list derived from the DGrades at the start of the 2026 season. but ensuring that partners do not play each other in the first round of either the draw or the process.

You get no choice of whom to play.

If you win you will get the chance to play soemone else.

GC Championship 2025

The tournament made use of two all-play-all blocks with each match consisting of one thirteen point game.

The semi-finalists were the top two from each block and, along with the finals were best of three thirteen point games.

In the semifinals:-
John Garnett played David Vincent and won 7-6, 7-4.
Simon Bryant beat Peter Allan 7-6, 7-6.

Peter and David played for 3rd and 4th place.
Peter won 7-5, 7-4.

The final between John and Simon was a tighter competition. Simon won
7-5, 4-7-4, 7-6.

GC Championship 2024

Peter Allan qualified for the Semifinals through both his lives. The other semifinalists were John Garnett and Dave Grinstead. Peter went straight to the Final leaving John and Dave to battle it out for a place in the Final. Their games ebbed and flowed with John coming out on top with 7-6 and 7-4 wins. Peter was trying to regain the trophy he had won the previous two years. However, John toppled Peter with his jumps, clearances and good hoop running, winning 7-5 and 7-6. Well done John.

The competition will run throughout the season and will culminate in a Finals day on Saturday 31 August.

The tournament format will be Knockout with two lives, meaning you will have two opportunities to reach the final stages. Each match will consist of one game, best of 13 points and is level play.

Dates for each round apply to both your lives (Draw and Process). Note that many people have a bye for round 1. Note also that if you currently have no match to play you will see no opponent listed.

GC Championship 2023

This is a GC Singles Level Play competition open to all members of the Club with a Final on 31st August.

Within each Group the format for each match will be all-play-all and the best of three games. These matches MUST be played by 25th August. Results should be recorded below by the winner of each match. When all the group matches have been played the top two from each block will play Semi-finals and Final on Thursday 31 August.

GC Championship 2022

Duncan beat John 7-4, 7-3.

Finals

In the semi-finals Peter Allan beat Steve Fisher 7-3, 7-4 and John Garnett beat Paul Wolff 7-2, 7-3.

Paul beat Steve 7-6, 5-7, 7-4 to take third position.

Peter won the final against John 6-7, 7-3, 7-6.

GC Championship Cup 2020

There are two groups. The winner in each group is decided by:

who wins the most matches
hoop differences
who beat whom
a penalty shoot out – boundary to hoop 1

The first and second in each group go to the semi-finals: A1 v B2 and B1 vs A2.

The result of each match shows the net hoops in that match and “W” denotes the winner and “L” the loser. Most of the time a positive number is associated with a “W” but this is not always the case. The last three columns (P, W and N) show the number of matches played, the number of wins and the overall net hoops. The results are ordered by most wins and the largest net hoops. The blocks are now complete so final positions have been decided using the first two criteria listed above as necessary.
