Club Competitions 2012

One-day competitions - (1) Spring Doubles (association croquet)

Manager Deirdre Cochrane

The association croquet season began with the Spring Doubles on Easter Saturday, 7 April. Seven entrants braved the occasional light shower, cloudy skies, and temperatures nearly up into double figures, to celebrate the re-opening of the lawns for the 2012 season.

In order to fit three rounds in, the format was 14-point handicap croquet to a 90-minute time limit. Stuart Parks sportingly agreed to play without a partner, and gave away too many bisques as a result.
Round 1:
Deirdre Cochrane (6) and Allan Ridgeley (22) beat Stuart Parks (7) +3
David Spear (7) and David Moren-Brown (18) beat Paul Wolff (9) and David Seed (20) +4
Round 2:
David Spear and David Moren-Brown beat Stuart Parks +3
Paul Wolff and David Seed beat Deirdre Cochrane and Allan Ridgeley +2
Round 3:
David Spear and David Moren-Brown beat Deirdre Cochrane and Allan Ridgeley +9
Paul Wolff and David Seed beat Stuart Parks +12

Deirdre congratulated the undefeated winning pair, David Spear and David Moren-Brown, and presented them with their prizes.

If the format of recent years is maintained, the competition will be arranged in two preliminary blocks, giving a winner and runner-up in each. The winners and runners-up of the two blocks will then play off on Finals Weekend, 22-23 September.

Entry fee: £10.

The Icknield Trophy

This golf croquet competition is also usually played in two preliminary blocks. In each block, each competitor plays a match against each of the others. Each match is decided by the best of three 13-point games, in which the winner is the first to run seven hoops.

Play-offs between the block winners and runners-up will also be held on the Finals Weekend.
